This is a class blog for COMM 271: Introduction to Media at Boise State University. This class introduces students to the study of media content, industries and audiences with a focus on the relationship between media and power.
We live in an age where media dominate our social, political and interpersonal interactions, making it vital for us to become active consumers and producers of media. Introduction to Media is designed to help students become more empowered and aware by examining our constructed reality with a close look at the relationship between media and power. After taking this class, students should be able to think critically and communicate effectively about the role and nature of media in American culture and democratic life. Students produce their own analytical writing and present ideas to their classmates. They also develop their own original thinking about the role of media in a democracy and develop strategies for managing their own personal media consumption.
